ABOUT ME
I'm Kevin. My main interests include programming, reading, writing, running, grilling, and music production.
I studied Computer Science at UC Berkeley. I'm from San Diego, CA and I'm currently based in San Francisco, CA.
Code
I currently work as a Senior Software Engineer at Illumina, specializing in high performance C++ for processing large Next Generation Sequencing datasets. Here are some of my previous projects.
System-wide parametric equalizer that interfaces directly with PulseAudio. Follows the design principles of equalizers found in production DAWs. Made the front page of Hacker News.
Brave released a partially complete version of Speedreader in 2018. Due to fundamental issues, the project laid dormant for many years. During my time at Brave, I implemented a custom version of the readability algorithm in Speedreader V2, which shipped to users in 2021.
Chromium & Firefox browser extension that adds end-to-end encryption to untrusted chat & social media platforms — Discord, Slack, Weibo, etc.
While at Berkeley, I spent some time on coursework and most of my time tinkering with the Open Computing Facility's infrastructure.
wRITING
I regularly write about technology — examining its historical context while exploring temporal privacy and security implications.

MUSIC
In high school, I spent the majority of my free time making hip hop beats and ambient music. You can listen on my SoundCloud.
During this time, I also trained Opera with the inimitable Daniel Hendrick, serving as cantor for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.
